Say I wanted to print Mozart 29. I'd love to be able to save the proper setup and print the entire set of parts/score with one click.

@mike-barry I have an idea for how to implement this. Oltk now has the facility to write metadata into pdf files. I propose we write metadata for num copies, paper size, print type (booklet, accordion etc.) Foldout pages etc. Into the pdf's metadata when pressing print (and/or could have a button for save print settings)

Then, we could have an option in settings that recalls this information preferentially over using the section defaults when you add a pdf to oltk.

I like this solution because:

  • It is simple
  • It doesn't rely on the files being in a particular place on the file system
  • It's portable- I.e., if you open the files in oltk on another computer, they should still know their print settings
  • It is genuinely 1-click printing after loading the files into oltk

What do you think?

I've now built this feature and it will be released in the next 24 hours as 1.3.1. There are two new settings added to the Print Settings tab:

  • one to prefer recalling print settings from file metadata over using section defaults
  • one to automatically save print settings to pdf metadata when hitting the print button

There's also a save settings to files button on the print tab that you can use if you just want to save settings but don't want to print the whole print job right now.
